WALKING IN THE QUANTUM INTERNET: QUANTUM WALKS AND QUANTUM NETWORK TOMOGRAPHY

Quantum walks are one of the few techniques for developing quantum algorithms. The quantum Internet will empower revolutionary technologies that cannot be implemented by classical computer networks. In this talk, I'll present advancements in the literature of quantum walks and then pivot to discuss how they can be used to implement distributed quantum computing. In particular, we'll look at the connection between random and quantum walks on finite graphs [1, 2], demonstrating that both processes are statistically equivalent in terms of vertex distributions. We'll then discuss how quantum walks can be used as a quantum control plane for distributed quantum computing [3]. Finally, I'll briefly discuss quantum network tomography, which has the goal of learning quantum network parameters from end-to-end observations.[4].

Matheus G. Andrade

Matheus is CS PhD candidate at UMass Amherst, working with Don Towsley in Quantum Networks. His main research interests are in distributed quantum computing, quantum network tomography, quantum walks, and performance evaluation of quantum networks. He graduated from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in Computer and Information Engineering in 2018. He has a Master's degree in Computer and Systems Engineering from COPPE UFRJ since 2020, where he was co-advised by Daniel Ratton Figueiredo and Franklin de Lima Marquezino.
