CariOPT 2025
I Carioca Workshop on Optimization and Applications
The first edition of the Carioca Workshop on Optimization and Applications- CariOPT 2025 will be organized by the School of Applied Mathematics of Fundação Getulio Vargas - FGV EMAp in Rio de Janeiro, from May 5 to 7, 2025.
Optimization is an important area of applied mathematics and operations research that aims to find optimal solutions for maximizing or minimizing objectives. In machine learning, it enhances model training by reducing loss and improving accuracy. Industries such as manufacturing, logistics, energy economics, and finance use optimization to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Advanced optimization techniques—such as nonlinear programming, variational analysis, and optimization on manifolds—can improve modeling and algorithm design, including applications in robotics and computer vision. Tensor methods are also used to analyze high-dimensional data for tasks like pattern recognition, anomaly detection, and dimensionality reduction.

CI2025
14th International Conference on Climate Informatics
The 14th International Conference on Climate Informatics (CI2025), organized by IBM Reserach Brazil and the School of Applied Mathematics at Fundação Getulio Vargas - FGV EMAp, will take place from April 28 to 30, 2025, at the Centro Cultural Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
This year marks a significant milestone: for the first time, CI2025 will be hosted in the Global South, reflecting our commitment to fostering a more inclusive and global dialogue in climate informatics.
The conference will feature a diverse program, including sessions on oceanography, hydrology, remote sensing, weather and climate, societal impacts, and regional studies. These sessions are designed to encourage insightful discussions and foster collaborations at the intersection of climate science and data science.
CI2025 will be held in a hybrid format, welcoming both in-person and virtual participants to ensure broad accessibility.

Hydroscheduling 2025
8th International Conference on Hydropower Scheduling in Competitive Electricity Markets
The 8th International Conference on Hydropower Scheduling in Competitive Electricity Markets will be held at FGV EMAp, Rio de Janeiro, from May 26 to 28, 2025 and will bring together academics, practitioners and researchers in Energy, especially in Hydroelectric Energy Generation. In its 8th edition, the first in Brazil, we intend to dedicate special attention to Environmental challenges, Integration of new elements to the Energy Grid, Machine Learning and Optimization techniques.

Applied Inverse Problems
The next edition of the AIP Conference will be held at FGV EMAp, Rio de Janeiro, from July 28 to August 1, 2025, and it will gather academics, practitioners, and students working in the area. Inverse Problems are focused on reconstruction of quantities of interest from indirect observations. They occur in medical imaging, non-destructive testing, geophysical exploration, astrophysical imaging, many high-resolution microscopy techniques, data mining, finance, econometrics, and other fields. Research on Inverse Problems combines techniques from mathematical analysis, differential geometry, numerical analysis, machine learning, image processing, scientific computing, and computer science. The AIP conferences are organized biannually, and they have become the largest meeting in the field. Hosting the first AIP in Latin America, as well as in the Southern Hemisphere, is a great honor and a unique opportunity to disseminate Inverse Problems research in the Brazilian mathematical community.
