The initiative brought together more than 4,000 students in the Espírito Santo municipality of Domingos Martins at the end of November and highlighted the partnership between the School and FGV CDMC with local institutions to promote improvements in the quality of basic education in mathematics and science studies.

The School of Applied Mathematics at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV EMAp) maintains strategic partnerships across Brazil that promote improvements in the quality of basic education and encourage deeper studies in mathematics and science. The School has supported regional projects that transform local realities and broaden access to scientific knowledge, such as the Martinense Mathematics Olympiad (OLI∑MAT) in Espírito Santo. The awards ceremony for the 2nd edition of the event took place on November 25, in the district of Paraju, in Domingos Martins.
OLI∑MAT brought together students, families, school staff, and municipal authorities at the sports court of the Gisela Salloker Fayet State Elementary and High School (EEEFM), celebrating talent and recognizing the effort of young people who dedicated themselves to studying mathematics throughout 2025.
The growth of the Olympiad in just two years highlights the positive impact of the initiative. To give an idea: in 2025, a total of 4,213 students registered—from the 3rd year of elementary school to the 3rd year of high school—an increase of almost 50% compared with the inaugural edition, which had already mobilized around 2,830 young people.
The first-phase assessments were held in August and selected 485 students for the second stage. The final phase took place in October, in 15 schools across Domingos Martins, with written exams. As in 2024, 90 students received medals, in addition to being recognized for their dedication and talent throughout the Olympiad.
With its second edition consolidated and expanding, OLI∑MAT reinforces the importance of partnerships among schools, universities, research institutions, and public authorities — a path FGV EMAp will continue to encourage throughout Brazil.

Held since 2024, the Martinense Mathematics Olympiad is organized by the Municipal Department of Education of Domingos Martins in partnership with the Matemática na Rede Program (Sedu / Espírito Santo Research and Innovation Support Foundation – FAPES), FGV EMAp, and the Center for the Development of Mathematics and Sciences (FGV CDMC), as well as the Regional Coordination of the Brazilian Public School Mathematics Olympiad (OBMEP) in Espírito Santo. The initiative fosters interest in mathematics, helps identify talent, and opens doors for students to advance into scientific and technological fields.
